Fr. Allen J. Hoffa

Reverend Allen Joseph Hoffa was born June 4, 1983 to Gregory and Annmarie (Iswalt) Hoffa. He was baptized at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church in Reading and attended St. Mary School from Kindergarten until the 3rd Grade. His family moved to Exeter Township and joined St. Catharine of Siena Parish (Reading, PA).

Father Hoffa has a younger sister and brother. His sister Allison recently graduated with an Elementary Teaching Degree from Alvernia University. His brother Andrew is finishing his sophomore year at Reading Central Catholic High School.

Fr. Hoffa graduated from St. Catharine of Siena School in 1997 and moved on to Reading Central Catholic High School. From 6th grade until graduating High School he was an altar server at St. Catharine’s Church. During the summer of 1999 Fr. Hoffa worked for pastor Msgr. Joseph Smith as a sacristan. He often would be the first to arrive and the last to leave the church on Saturdays and Sundays. As a sacristan he was also entrusted with the prepartation of vessels and vestments for the weekend Masses. In the Spring of 2000 he attended the 2000 World Youth Day in Rome. The World Youth Day experience and work as a sacristan both were very influential to Fr. Hoffa's discernment for the priesthood.

In high school Fr. Hoffa was a 3 sport athlete competing on the football, basketball, and track & field teams. He was also a member of the Central Catholic Development Club, the Varsity “C” Athletic Club, and various other volunteer service groups at the high school.

Fr. Hoffa graduated from Reading Central Catholic High School in 2001. He received the Good Citizenship Award from PA State Senator Michael O’Pake.

Fr. Hoffa attended Albright College in the fall of 2001 where he was a recipient of a prestigious Shirk Scholarship. Fr. Hoffa was a part of the 2001 Albright College football team that went 7-4. While he had a very good experience at Albright but knew that something was missing. Through prayer and discernment he came to the conclusion in the Spring of 2002 that he should leave Albright and enter St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Philadelphia for studies for the Roman Catholic Priesthood.

Father Hoffa received his B.A. in Philosophy from Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary in 2005. He earned his Master of Divinity degree from the seminary in 2008. He was ordained a Transitional Deacon May 10, 2008 and spent a year as a deacon at St. Jane Frances de Chantal Parish in Easton, PA. On June 6, 2009 he was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Allentown by His Excellency Most Reverend Edward P. Cullen. Fr. Hoffa was then assigned to the Cathedral of St. Catharine of Siena as is a full-time Parochial Vicar and part-time as Chaplain to Allentown Central Catholic High School.
