Bereavement Support
Group Program

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” (Matthew 5:4)

Our next 3-month Program begins on February 18, in the Parish Library, 7:00 to 8:30 PM, facilitated by Jerry Herauf, MA, MDiv.

Jerry is a St Thomas More parishioner and Hospice Chaplain with Revolutionary Home Care and Hospice, Eynon. He has also presented seminars in Wellness, Spiritual Self-Care, and End of Life Care at New Eastwood, Easton Hospital, and Saint Francis Center for Renewal. Certified in Ignatian spiritual counseling and direction by the Jesuit Spirituality Center in Guelph, Ontario, his background also includes Christian publishing and college teaching.

Through a 3-part process, participants are led toward becoming reconciled with and transformed by their bereavement experience.
This process includes:

  • Reflecting on and sharing their experiences of grieving with other parishioners in the group who have recently lost a loved one
  • Sharing their insights as they are reading through our book “Understanding Your Grief” written by Alan Wolfelt, Founder of the Center for Loss and Transition, Fort Collins, Colorado, and author or several fine books on grieving
  • Growing spiritually as they are invited into and assisted in practicing their own personal prayer life.
