DID YOU KNOW?
…that this is the 50th Anniversary of Operation Rice Bowl?
…and that Operation Rice Bowl is a worldwide program of Catholic Relief Services that began right here at Saint Thomas More Parish, back in 1975, as an ecumenical response to world hunger?
Msgr. Robert Coll, STM pastor at that time, coordinated this Lenten effort with leaders of other local denominations. The program was adopted as a national program in 1976, under the auspices of Catholic Relief Services in preparation for the 41st Eucharistic Congress in Philadelphia that year.
In 1977, it was voted to be the official program of Catholic Relief Services by the United States Bishops. Since then more than $350 million has been given through CRS Rice Bowl to support programs that prevent hunger and poverty in 120 countries worldwide.
PLEASE DON’T FORGET!
